GLOBAL GOALS WORLD CUP
MOVE has been selected to represent Malta in the Global Goals Challenge, an Erasmus+ project that aims at making women more active.
Recognising a global issue of female underrepresentation in sport, 12 female coaches from all over Europe, all with spectacular ideas on how to use and combine sport and activism to change the world for women, have been selected to take part in this project. They will each set a team of women from their home country to participate in the Global Goals World Cup in May.
In a meeting in Copenhagen recently, Cynthia Debono, Founder and President of MOVE, joined the other female coaches where they shared ideas, best practices and experiences to develop a collective training plan to make this initiative a success. Besides the various workshops, the meeting also included a visit to the Danish activist project, entitled “The Youth Island”.
Each ambassador coach has been tasked to make her own individual action plan to set up and coach her team, and how she will use the Global Goals as a tool to give the team a joint mission of action and advocacy for what they believe in. Therefore, over the next 6 months the ambassador coaches will each set up a team of female players, who would have had to overcome social or cultural barriers to participate in sport, and together pick one of the 17 #GlobalGoals to play for while they develop new ways to engage women in society and in sports.
The Global Goals World Cup, an alternative football tournament that creates communities and inspires and engages women from all over the world, is an international soccer initiative created by Danish sports organisation EIR Soccer, in collaboration with Save the Children, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and several other partners.
